Annuity Product Specific Training
A majority of the states have adopted the NAIC 2010 Suitability in Annuity Transactions Model. There are two critical requirements that MUST be completed in order to be in compliance. Under Section 7A, producers are required to take specific product training from each carrier prior to soliciting business. Section 7B requires producers to complete a four-credit hour general annuity training course, which is available through several insurance-department approved educational providers.
Advisors writing annuity business in any of the listed states must have completed both of these requirements before applications are taken. If one requirement is met, but not the other, the applications taken will require new client signatures and dates! No exceptions from carriers have been made on this regulation. It is crucial that any advisors planning on soliciting business be in compliance.
